BIO:

Colby is a Henderson County native and a 2005 graduate of East Henderson High School, after graduating Colby attended Appalachian State University & Western Carolina University. In 2008, Colby took the position as Worship Leader at First Baptist East Flat Rock. In 2010, he also added to his resume Student Pastor, working with students 6th-12th grade in the East Flat Rock community. Currently Colby Serves at the Worship & Creative Arts Pastor of First Baptist East Flat Rock.

Before becoming a full time pastor, Colby worked as a summer day camp counselor and elementary school teacher assistant at Hendersonville Christian School. He has been actively involved since high school in volunteering in local classrooms on a regular basis. Volunteering in schools has allowed him to not only better relationships with students, but also with teachers and administrators. It has also given him the opportunity, first hand, to see and hear of great things going on and things that could use some improving upon. His mother is a first grade teacher assistant in Henderson County and has been since he was young.

Colby feels that a quality education should be available to every child in Henderson County. Quality education for some students may include the smaller class sizes of private and charter schools or the one on one attention that is provided in a homeschool setting. All parents should be encouraged to choose what is best for their child.

Colby believes that one of the greatest challenges facing Henderson County Public Schools on a yearly basis is the annual budget. When entrusted with millions of dollars provided by the hard working tax-payers of Henderson County and North Carolina, the board must provide these tax-payers with a detailed breakdown of where the funds are being allocated, not just a generalized budget. The budget needs to focus on the classroom and teachers, not on the salaries of those in the highest positions. Henderson County is blessed with teachers who are creatively educating our students and are enriching the lives of each student in their care.

Colby is running for school board to make a difference. Having grown up around educators, and in the Henderson County system, Colby has a personal interest in seeing Henderson County Public Schools be the best it can possibly be. Colby looks forward to meeting and talking to the amazing citizens of this great county.
